Artist Statement

My favorite time periods in history are when the famous Artist Toulouse Lautrec Painted the Moulin Rouge, the whole Impressionist era and that of the 1960’s icon Andy Warhol.  My goal as a professional Illustrator and Artist/Painter is to use the influence of these artists and incorporate it into my own work, to create my own personal style. I also love old school Illustration of the late Antonio Lopez, who Illustrated for Vogue in the 70 ‘s and 80’s, Olivia, Vargas, Gil Elvgren and Erte just to name a few.

It is fair to say I have achieved my goal because I am often told by people that the various pieces I rendered remind them of these Artists. I coined my own phrase for my art as,”Fashion Fusion” a blend of Fashion Illustration, Pop and Contemporary Art. Based on suggestive drawing or (simplified drawing).  I try to keep it simple and to the point using as little definition as possible and no real hard lines.  My art is basically rendered in a simplified manner. I work mostly with ink, Watercolor, Marker, Pastel, Pencil and Acrylic. Those mediums lend themselves to my style as you will see. As a Fashion Illustrator for quite some time I developed a looseness in my style of drawing.   Most of what you will see is Figurative, Faces with heavy emphasis on Eyes and Lips. I also render other subjects such as Commercial and Popular objects, Flowers etc. The thrill for me is when I can nail a figure, facial expression or emotion in very few strokes of the brush or pen.

I would love to bring back Illustration and less Photography especially on covers of the great Fashion Magazines. Illustrations gave them Grace, Style and Individuality more than a typical Photograph they would use today.

Sincerely,

Artist
